Bio
Paul Stephens grew up in Los Angeles and was influenced by songwriters such as Paul McCartney, John Lennon, and Bob Dylan. These writers did not influence Paul because he was naturally drawn to their sounds or writing styles as a young kid, but mainly because they wrote the songs that his dad listened to. He grew to love the Beatles. His favorite songs as a kid were “Hey Jude” and “Yesterday.” It was these songs that sparked his interest in the craft of songwriting. He didn’t know it at the time, but he was inspired by how the songs made him feel. Songs have a unique power in that they can stir your emotions and move your heart.
Paul began to write songs in high school and was driven by writing music that would move people and allow them to explore the depth of God’s love and grace. He realized that he loved depicting his heart for God and God’s heart for His people in music and lyrics. His first songs were worship songs and were sung at his church on a weekly basis.
In his new release, UNBREAKABLE, Paul Stephens fleshes out 10 new songs that he labored over for the past year and a half at his home in Los Angeles. These songs were intended for the listeners. As Paul performed at various venues around Los Angeles, he tried out new songs on his audiences and took note of which ones really impacted people.
In “This Is How I Know,” the unrelenting believer defends his faith, attesting to why he believes in God and why his listeners should believe as well. Taking us on a journey from what we see in nature, to what we experience in relationship with each other, and finally to how grace has intervened and given us a second chance, he makes a good case and leaves his listeners with no other choice but to join in and sing along.
In the title track, “Unbreakable,” Paul unlocks the door and chronicles the story of his Father, praising the admirable qualities of his hero. The heart-wrenching lyrics read like poetry and depict the image of a man we should all strive to imitate.
The pained plea of “In Your Eyes” is a cry for a change of heart. “If I could walk a mile in Your shoes / I would never pass another stranger or turn away from hunger / I’d be on my knees begging too / Just to show him we are brothers / In this life together.” The song leaves his listeners with no other choice but to pick up a cross and follow Christ.
Recorded at Firehouse Recording Studios in Pasadena, UNBREAKABLE was broadcast live on the internet as thousands of viewers tuned in over a period of 3 days. This anticipated release features 10 new songs by Paul, displaying a broad diversity from his soulful vocals and a message that calls his listeners to action.
